Hey folks, I was just wondering if anyone out there has started using the Millenniata "M-DISC" for permanent archival storage yet?  These are recordable DVDs that use a mineral layer instead of an organic dye layer to record the data, so they don't degrade on their own like the 5-7 year lifespan of a standard recordable DVD. However, I just ordered my first set, and so far I've managed to make three valid discs, and found 3 discs that aren't even recognized by the drive.  I just wanted to find out if anyone else is using these and seeing this kind of defective rate in the media? Yay, I've been denied. I tried to open an account with shutterstock.com.  The initial 10 images submitted for review were all denied for "Composition -- Limited commercial value due to framing, cropping, and/or composition."  Given that none of the images were framed or overly-cropped... although how much the composition could be changed on :thumb207152769: or :thumb207152916:, I dunno. Yay. So much for shutterstock.

One of my pictures was purchased by a magazine :D  My photo of the Camperdown Elm in the Filoli historic estate is included in an article about camperdown elms in the Summer 2011 edition of American Bungalow magazine.  Woot!
